ORV Stickers
Michigan's designated ORV / ATV Trails System is operated as a 'fees for services' program. Much like a toll road, the users of
Michigan's trail systems pay for their use, development and maintenance through the purchase of an ORV License or more commonly referred
to as an ORV Sticker. Anyone using any portion of Michigan's designated system, including county roads open to ORV use and frozen lake
surfaces must have an ORV license applied to their vehicle.
More information about Michigan's ORV program can be found in Off Road Venture's ORV / ATV Rules and Regulations guide. You can also
purchase ORV stickers through their web store when purchasing a printed product.
The money from the sale of these licenses is deposited into Michigan's Legacy Fund which can only be used for these programs. The state
of Michigan, Department of Natural resources manages the ORV program and its legacy fund. For each ORV sticker purchased, the fund is
distributed according to the following formula:
- $0.25 goes to the dealer or point of sale provider.
The provider is compensated for their work.
- $1.00 goes to Safety Education.
You are helping to fund safer ORV operation in Michigan.
- $15.00 goes into the ORV Fund
The ORV fund is distributed and administered in the following fashion:
- 53.125 % goes to trail maintenance.
Volunteer Clubs and Associations install confidence markers and signs, remove deadfall and
generally make the trails safer.
- 31.25 % goes to law enforcement.
Law Enforcement is partially supported through the ORV fund.
- 12.5 % goes to damage restoration.
When ORV operators ride where they should not, we all pay to fix the damage.
