Trail Maintenance Programs

Maintained through the volunteer efforts

Our states designated trail system is maintained through the volunteer efforts of individuals just like you, through organized groups, clubs and associations.

Application is made to the Department of Natural Resources to sponsor the maintenance of each and every trail in the system.

Trail maintenance consists of installing signs, posts, and confidence markers, trimming brush and removing deadfall. While this maintenance program may seem "light", it requires a highly dedicated group of individuals to keep our trails in good condition.

If the trail you are on is in great condition, find out who maintains that trail and send them a thank you note. If the trail is not in such good condition, seek out the sponsoring agency and ask how you can help them with their trail.

Contact the Department of Natural Resources to see how you can get involved to help maintain our system.
